The Middlesex County Freeholders will host a free paper shredding event that is open to the public from 9 a.m. to noon Friday in the parking lot of New Brunswick High School, 1000 Somerset St.

Anyone from the county can bring sensitive documents, such as bank statements and bills to be shredded and recycled, according to a release from Mayor James Cahill's office.

Books, newspapers, magazines and plastic items will not be accepted. Paper clips and staples do not have to be removed from documents in order for them to be shredded, the release said.
