VIDEO: Snow Wallops South Brunswick; Traffic Jams, Up To 7.8 Inches Of Snow

A nor'easter walloped South Brunswick early Thursday as cars hit gridlock on area roads, local schools were closed and nearly eight inches fell on Old Bridge.

Downed wires were reported in Central Jersey as salt was spread on the New Jersey Turnpike and Route 1. There were only a small amount of power outages reported by mid-day.

Road crews were plowing and salting and a speed restriction on the New Jersey Turnpike was in place in both directions from the Delaware Memorial Bridge in Pennsville Township to the George Washington Bridge in Fort Lee, at 35 miles per hour.

Motorists should anticipate delays and use caution due to current roadway conditions.

Princeton's emergency personnel met this morning to assess the current impacts of the storm, noting that the mayor has declared a local state of emergency.

People are also reminded to curtail driving and to also have their vehicles removed from the streets. All on-street parking is prohibited at this time and vehicles parked on public roadways are subject to being towed. 

This storm is going to continue through the day and well into tonight. We have crews working round the clock to try to keep up with the storm. Because of the amount of snow and the constantly changing weather mixing with the snow is sleet, freezing rain and rain it slows the efforts down. 

As of this time we have no reported power outages. However, if you experience an outage at your residence you are asked to contact PSE&G directly at 1-800-436-PSEG (7734).

If you see a wire down on your street please report that to the Police Department at 609-921-2100 and push 0. Provide the location, a pole number and a cross street if possible. Please DO NOT call the police or 9-1-1 to report a power outage unless there is an associated emergency.

If residents need a warming center or an area to recharge personal electronic items the Municipal Office building at 400 Witherspoon Street is open 24 hours a day. Access is available only through the Police Department entrance on the Valley Road side of the building. 

Finally, residents are advised that trash collection for today, Thursday, has been postponed and has been rescheduled for Friday. Municipal offices are closed today as are Princeton Public Schools.
