UPDATE: Missing South Brunswick 18-Year-Old Returns Home

Shahan Akhter walked into South Brunswick Police headquarters at 1 a.m. Monday morning after being missing since Thursday.

A South Brunswick resident missing since last week walked into the police station early this morning.

Shahan Akhter, 18, of the Monmouth Walk Development, returned home uninjured and entered South Brunswick Police headquarters at 1 a.m. Monday morning, police said.  Akhter had been missing since Thursday.  Akhter's family and friends reported him missing after they saw a post he left on Facebook indicating he was going to harm himself, police said.

Akhter left his job in New Brunswick around 3 p.m. Thursday and was later seen near the Rutgers Student Center on College Ave, according to police.  From there, Akhter reportedly took a cab to northern New Jersey, where he was last seen around 5:15 p.m.

Akhter's family told police that he was depressed and that they were concerned for his safety.
