Two Women Killed in Route 27 Accident Tuesday

Two Franklin Park women pronounced dead at the scene after vehicle struck a traffic light and a large rock.

Two women from Franklin Park were killed near Promenade Blvd. on the border of South Brunswick and Franklin Township.

The driver of the vehicle, Karen Sanger, 51, and passenger Mildred Davis, 23, both of Lindsey Court in Franklin Park, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Franklin Township Police, Sanger was traveling south on Route 27 in a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a traffic signal, before crashing into a large rock near the intersection of Trap Rock Drive.

Following the accident, Route 27 was shut down for several hours. Promenade Blvd. was down to right turn only onto Route 27 while the state Department of Transportation completed repairs to the traffic light.

The incident remains under investigation by the Franklin Police Traffic Safety Bureau and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team.
