Deans Lane has been closed near Blackhorse Lane after a tractor-trailer carrying water struck a train bridge over the roadway.

The accident briefly delayed trains traveling on the northeast corridor, as there were concerns about the structural integrity of the bridge. Amtrak spokesman Cliff Cole said engineers finished examining the damage at about 1:30 p.m. and reported no issues.

Both Amtrak and New Jersey Transit said the accident is not expected to impact rail service through the rest of Friday.

The incident occurred at about 12:15 p.m., when the truck was headed down Deans Lane from Route 1 and made it about three-fourths of the way under the bridge crossing, according to police.

Police are on scene and traffic is being diverted at Georges Road and Blackhorse Lane. South Brunswick Police spokesman Sgt. Jim Ryan said the roadway will be closed for at least the next two hours.
