South Brunswick Police Take Top Honors for National Night Out Again

South Brunswick's National Night Out celebration ranked number one in New Jersey for second straight year.

For the second year in a row, the South Brunswick Police Department is being honored for their efforts during the . South Brunswick Police were ranked first in New Jersey for the second straight year, and ranked sixth nationally, by the National Association of Town Watch for the community outreach efforts during the 2011 National Night Out.

South Brunswick’s celebration was recognized for its community collaborative effort and scope, according to Sgt. Jim Ryan. The department was notified by the committee of the award this week.

This year's event, which was held on Aug. 2 in , saw about 3,600 residents come out to enjoy rides for kids, displays by South Brunswick's first responders, free hot dogs and snacks.

South Brunswick’s 2011 celebration also included police visits to neighborhoods throughout South Brunswick. This involved officers visiting neighborhoods throughout the township to speak with residents and listen to their concerns and questions.

More than four dozen volunteers helped to coordinate the lineup of events.
