South Brunswick Police were able to locate a missing Barnegat man yesterday who is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. A Silver Alert was issued early on Sunday for Anthony Granese, 77, who was last seen at Island Beach State Park at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Granese had originally left his Barnegat residence at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday to travel to a store in Manahawkin, traveling in a 2003 Toyota Camry. Later on Saturday, police said Granese had approached a Berkeley Township police officer looking for directions to the Garden State Parkway. He was reported missing to the Barnegat Police Department at 5:30 p.m.
South Brunswick Police were contacted by a motorist on Sunday reporting they may have seen Granese's car in the area. The motorist said they lost track of the Camry on Route 130.
South Brunswick Officers Tara Jairdullo and Eric Buraszeski were able to locate Granese on Route 130 and Route 522 at about 1 p.m. Granese was then transported by the Monmouth Junction First Aid Squad to St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick for evaluation.
"It is our partnership with the community that makes us successful," said Chief Raymond Hayducka. "The call from the alert motorist followed by officers being in the area at the time of the call resulted in the safe recovery of this lost motorist."
