South Brunswick Police Lieutenant Graduates FBI Academy

James Stoddard, a 25-year member of the South Brunswick Police Department, graduated from the FBI National Academy earlier this month.

South Brunswick Police Department announces the graduation of Lieutenant James Stoddard from the FBI National Academy.

He was part of the 252nd session of the National Academy. The ceremony held on March 22, was attended by FBI Director Robert Mueller.

The academy held in Quantico, Virginia was a 10-week program. Stoddard's classmates consisted of men and women from 49 states. Included in the class were members of law enforcement agencies from 27 international countries, four military organizations and five federal organizations.

The FBI Academy began in 1935. The Academy mission is "to support, promote, and enhance the personal and professional development of law enforcement leaders by preparing them for complex, dynamic, and contemporary challenges through innovative techniques, facilitating excellence in education and research, and forging partnerships throughout the world."

Participation is by invitation only through a detailed nomination process. It begins with a nomination by the officer’s Chief of Police. The nominee is then interviewed and vetted by the regional FBI office and finally a background check and physical assessment are completed. On average, participants have 19 years of law enforcement experience and usually return to their agencies to serve in executive level positions.

Lieutenant James Stoddard is a 25-year member of the police department.

"The National Academy is a unique program that fosters advanced learning and partnerships," said Chief Raymond Hayducka.
