South Brunswick Police Join 'Shine the Light on Domestic Violence'

Residents are encouraged to display purple lights during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Purple lights will be shining in South Brunswick during October to spread awareness on the horrors of domestic violence.

The South Brunswick Police Department is joining a countywide effort to bring attention to domestic violence during Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October.  

A new program by the Middlesex County Freeholders called "Shine the Light on Domestic Violence" is intended to have residents throughout the county show their support for stamping out domestic violence.

Shine the Light encourages residents and local officials to replace white light bulbs with purple colored ones, or to display purple string lights to mark Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The initiative is a way to bring attention to the devastating affects of domestic vioence and to show support for those who have suffered from it.

South Brunswick Police will show their support by displaying purple lights in police headquarters throughout the month to illuminate the fact that domestic violence has no place in South Brunswick, according to police spokesman Sgt. Jim Ryan.
