South Brunswick Police Continue to See Growth of Nixle

Sign up for South Brunswick Nixle alerts for up to the minute notifications from township police.

With second largest opt-in ratio in the nation for use of the Nixle system, South Brunswick Police are urging all residents to sign up for the service.

Nixle provides free notification services to residents, where they can receive important information about local road closures, accidents, crime alerts, school closings, weather emergencies, and more. With shrinking budgets affecting departments all over the state, South Brunswick Police spokesman Sgt. Jim Ryan said the Nixle service provides an invaluable service for departments to deal with less manpower.

"One of our most valuable tools is Nixle, which is the most widely used public safety notification system in the country, and used by nearly half of all police departments in New Jersey," he said. "We use Nixle to keep our residents safe and informed, but one recent event truly highlighted how agencies like ours are doing more with less."

Sgt. Ryan pointed to an incident where authorities were looking for a fugitive who was charged with being the leader of a drug network. The Middlesex County Prosecutors Office sent out an email alert to a dozen departments in the county asking each department to send out a Nixle alert.

After seeing the alert the suspect turned himself in within 24 hours, police said.

"A search that could have taken days or weeks and possibly hundreds of man hours only took less than 24 hours," Ryan said.
