South Brunswick Police Catch Federal Fugitive

Suspect wanted by ATF for firearms possession by a felon.

South Brunswick Police captured a suspect wanted for two months by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) on Monday afternoon.

Roscoe (Rocky) Melvin, 29, of Edison, was caught by police after being spotted in a vehicle on Kingston Lane. He was also wanted for questioning in an aggravated assault incident at a Route 1 motel earlier in July.

At about 3 p.m. Monday, South Brunswick Det. Ken Herman was investigating a tip that Melvin would be in the area of Kingston Lane and Georges Road. A team of detectives and officers coordinated surveillance on the area.

At 3:43 p.m., authorities observed Melvin in the back seat of a vehicle driving on Kingston Lane. Police moved in and were able to take Melvin into custody without incident.

Investigators were then able to link Melvin to an alleged assault of a man at the Hotel Vincenza on Route 1 from July 3. The victim of the assault sustained a broken jaw and a concussion, police said.
