South Brunswick Police Arrest Two Men, Seek Third Connected To 90 Crimes

South Brunswick Police have arrested two men, and are seeking a third in connection in connection to 70 crimes in two counties.

The suspects were connected to residential burglaries, car burglaries, a motor vehicle theft and weapons possession, police said.

Avery Medina, 20, New Brunswick and Jorge Camarilo, 22, of Piscataway were arrested. A third suspect,  Jihad Bibbs Jr., 18, of Franklin was identified this week and remains a fugitive, police said.

Detectives working a series of burglary investigations developed information in early March about a group from the New Brunswick area that was traveling in a stolen vehicle committing crimes, police said.

Detectives say they learned the suspects were traveling with stolen property believed connected to several South Brunswick crimes. South Brunswick detectives teamed with Metuchen detectives after Metuchen police recovered a stolen car near a burglary scene in their community during the second week of March.

Detectives recovered items in the stolen vehicle that were linked to car burglaries in South Brunswick. South Brunswick detectives say they were able to identify two members of the group committing the crimes as Medina and Camarilo. 

In South Brunswick, Medina and Camarillo are charged with four counts of burglary and possession of stolen property. They are both lodged on $40,000 bail.

In all, detectives believe the suspects may be connected to as many as 20 car burglaries and 70 residential burglaries over the past four months in Middlesex and Somerset counties.

South Brunswick Police worked with detectives from Franklin and Metuchen to bring an end to the suspects’ crime spree. The detectives were assisted by New Brunswick Police, Piscataway Police and members of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka credited great coordination with bringing these suspects crime spree to an end.

“These arrests are the result of good detective work and excellent coordination. The suspects believed by changing towns they could deter and delay their detection and apprehension – they could not have been more wrong,” he said.
