“This is a fun way to navigate through our Open House, while demonstrating your knowledge, and hopefully learning a few things along the way," said Monmouth Junction Fire Chief Brian Spahr. “We try to make the learning process fun for all but most importantly we want everyone to understand the importance of fire safety."

During the Open House, firefighters will conduct a live demonstration on the proper way to use a fire extinguisher. Also a demonstration on the Jaws of Life will be conducted on a real vehicle. There will be prizes and snacks along the way. So come join the firemen of Monmouth Junction and South Brunswick Fire District #2 and see if you have what it takes to get through the Hunt for Fire Safety!

The Kingston Volunteer Fire Company will hold its Annual Fire Prevention Open House on Sunday, Oct. 16 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Station 24 on Heathcote Road in Kingston.

“Fire Prevention programs are the most important service we provide as there is a direct connection between fire prevention education and saving the lives of children," said Kingston Chief Lloyd Mathis.

This year's National Fire Prevention Week theme is "Protect Your Family from Fire." You can protect your family by:

1. Installing smoke alarms on every level of your home,

2. Testing smoke alarms once a month,

3. Changing smoke alarm batteries at least once a year, and

4. Making and practicing a home fire escape plan.
