The crash comes just a week after actor-comedian Tracy Morgan was hospitalized in Middlesex County after a truck driver crashed into his limo. The truck driver was also accused of being tired.

The tractor-trailer driver, Willard May, 43, of New Castle, Del. was driving in the left lane on Route 1 south in a 2009 Volvo tractor hauling United States mail. The truck smashed the rear of a 2013 Toyota driven by Brenda Walker, 65, of Somerset, police said.

Walker’s Toyota was forced into the right lane and struck a 2013 BMW being driven by Beth Eisler, 49, of New York City.

Eisler’s vehicle was forced off the road onto the grass shoulder. Walker was taken by Plainsboro EMS to University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro for treatment of neck and back pain, police said.

May explained to officers that he was traveling about 35 to 40 mph when he took his eyes off the road to eat a sandwich, police said. He said he did not realize traffic had stopped when he ran into the back of the Toyota.

May was issued a summons for careless driving and following too closely.

One lane of Route 1 was closed for 30 minutes while the crash was cleared.
