Significant Traffic Expected from Funerals for Teens

Affected streets include Summerhill Road, Helmetta Boulevard, Cranbury Road, Dunhams Corner Road, Milltown Road and Ryders Lane.

Residents are advised to expect heavy traffic delays from the funerals of local teens Nicole Surace and Jeffrey Szatkowski Jr. on Wednesday and Thursday.

Surace, of Milltown, and Szatkowski, of Spotswood, were killed Saturday in a motor vehicle accident on Dutch Road in East Brunswick. The couple will be buried next to each other, according to Szatkowski's obituary from the Brunswick Memorial Home.

Services for Szatkowski will take place on Wednesday at Brunswick Memorial Funeral Home on Cranbury Road. The right lane of Cranbury Road in front of the funeral home will be shut down between 1 p.m. and 11 p.m.

On Thursday both funerals will take place in East Brunswick. An 11 a.m. service for Szatkowski will be held at the Brunswick Memorial Funeral Home, followed by a police escort into certain locations in Spotswood and then to Holy Cross Cemetery in South Brunswick for burial.

A funeral for Surace will take place at 11 a.m. at St. Bartholomew Roman Catholic Church on Ryders Lane, with a funeral mass to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in South Brunswick.

During both police escorts, several streets will be temporarily closed in East Brunswick and surrounding towns. Police ask residents to use caution and avoid the areas if possible.

Some of the streets to be affected in East Brunswick include Summerhill Road, Helmetta Boulevard, Cranbury Road, Dunhams Corner Road, Milltown Road and Ryders Lane.
