Second Juvenile Charged with Liberty Mall Purse Snatching

South Brunswick Police have arrested a second juvenile in connection with thefts that occurred at the Liberty Mall during April and May. Earlier this morning, a 16-year-old male arrived at police headquarters with his attorney and surrendered to detectives. The suspect was charged as an accomplice in the theft of a wallet from a 68-year-old victim on April 25. 

Last week, South Brunswick Police arrested a 15-year-old male in connection with two thefts that occurred at the Liberty Mall on April 25 and May 1. 

During the incident on April 25, police said the 68-year-old customer was leaving a Liberty Mall store with her purse in her shopping cart, when a suspect, who was described as a 6 foot-tall male with blond hair, grabbed the purse and ran off towards the Quincy Circle area.

During the incident on May 1, police said a 69-year-old woman was loading her car in the parking lot of the mall and had placed her purse on the ground.  When the woman turned around her purse was gone, according to police. 

South Brunswick Police said both of the juveniles arrested for the purse snatching incidents are also connected to a dozen car burglaries that occurred in the township over the last couple months. The burglaries took place in April and May in the Quincy Circle and Summerfield Blvd. areas. 

Both juveniles' cases have been referred to the Middlesex County Family Court for hearings.
