A fire at 56 Bayard Lane in Princeton Sunday left the building uninhabitable, police said.
Patrols, PFD and PFARS responded to the residence at 56 Bayard Lane on the report of a fire in the basement at that location. Upon arrival, the structure, along with the adjoining structure at 6 Hodge Rd., was evacuated, police said.
There were no injuries reported.
Responding fire units were able to extinguish the fire, which was determined to have started after embers from a fire in the fireplace had dropped into an ash cleanout in the basement.
Additional assistance fighting the fire was rendered by Plasma Physics FD Station 66, Kingston FD Station 24, Rocky Hill FD Station 53, Plainsboro FD Station 49, Princeton Junction FD Station 44, Princeton First Aid & Rescue and the NJ Fire Police.
The residence at 56 Bayard was deemed uninhabitable by the Princeton Bureau of Fire Safety; the occupants at 6 Hodge were allowed back into the home after the fire was extinguished.
Route 206 was closed for approximately 2 ½ hrs.
