Police Unity Tour Passes Through Area

More than 1,000 law enforcement officials stopped in the area on their way to Washington, D.C. to raise awareness and financial support for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.

The 2011 Police Unity Tour, an annual fundraiser bicycle ride from New Jersey to Washington D.C. that seeks to raise awareness about and financial support for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, passed through the area yesterday morning.

The ride – timed to be part of National Law Enforcement Officers Week – started Monday. Riders, including an officer from South Brunswick, departed from East Hanover in Morris County and proceeded to Ground Zero in Manhattan to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks – which claimed the lives of 60 police officers from New York City and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

They then headed back into New Jersey, where they spent the night in Edison. Their journey resumed this morning, making its way down Route 130 into Mercer County. In East Windsor, the riders paused for a brief break in the parking lot of the  store on Route 571 near Route 130. That’s where Patch caught up with them and captured the accompanying photos and video.
