Police Capture Wanted Burglary Suspect

Teen allegedly struggled with arresting officers to avoid capture.

A teen wanted on county burglary charges was apprehended by South Brunswick Police last week in the Wynwood Drive Development off Route 1.

Jonathan Jacobs, 19, was charged with resisting arrest and being a fugitive, in addition to the burglary charges, police said.

Investigators developed information that Jacobs was in the Wynwood complex around 2 p.m. on Dec. 5.  Police said that Jacobs had been frequently changing locations to avoid capture by authorities.

Officer Brian Snyder and Sgt. Dan Olsson located Jacobs in a residence on Deerberry Lane, where he allegedly resisted arrest and struggled with the officers but was quickly subdued, according to police.

Jacobs was lodged in the Middlesex County Correction Center on $50,000 bail.

Police also announced Wednesday that a white "painters van" wanted in connection with a series of burglaries that targeted the Brunswick Acres development in recent weeks was not connected to the break-ins.

The Brunswick Acres burglaries occurred on weekday evenings, with the suspects primarily stealing jewelry from the master bedrooms of the homes, which were located on Matthew Avenue and Virginia Street. The break-ins took place between the hours of 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Police said the suspects forced open a rear slider to gain entry to the home.

Witnesses told police they saw a white van driving slowly in the area around the time the burglaries occurred, but investigators determined the van was not connected.
