UPDATE: South Brunswick Woman Killed in Route 1 Crash

Dump truck strikes car at intersection of Route 1 and Promenade Boulevard.

South Brunswick Police have identified the victim in this morning's fatal crash on Route 1.

Police said Laura Bartlett, 60, of South Brunswick, was killed instantly when her car was struck as she attempted to make a left hand turn onto Route 1 south from Route 522.

As she made the turn, Bartlett's 1996 Subaru was struck by a 2005 Mac dump truck that was headed east on Promenade Blvd. attempting to cross over Route 1 onto Route 522 east.

Police said as the Subaru made the left, the truck struck the passenger’s side of the Subaru, causing both vehicles to slide about 75 feet into a traffic light stanchion, which was knocked over and came to rest in the east bound lane of Route 522.

The driver of the truck, Jay Tublin, 46, of Hillsborough, was not injured in the crash.

Investigators are still interviewing witnesses and examining the vehicles involved in the crash. The traffic signal and intersection was reopened at about 4 p.m. after Department of Transportation crews fixed the downed stanchion.

The Monmouth Junction Fire Department, South Brunswick EMS, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital paramedics, New Jersey Department of Transportation, and the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene.

One person was killed Monday morning after a traffic accident involving a dump truck striking a car in the intersection of Route 1 and Promenade Blvd.

At 9:56 a.m., a 1996 Subaru was making a left on Route 1 from Promenade and turned in front of a dump truck that was headed east across Route 1, according to police.

The dump truck crashed into the car, which was pushed into the light stanchion on the east bound side of the intersection, police said. The driver of the car was killed in the collision. The driver of the truck was not injured, police said.

The Department of Transportation is currently on scene repairing the destroyed traffic light. One lane of Route 1 northbound is closed. The Route 1 and Promendade Blvd. intersection will be closed until the traffic light is repaired. Police estimated the road could reopen by 1 p.m.

No further details about the victim was immediately available pending notification of the family.
