National Night Out Tonight at Rowland Park

The 2011 event at Rowland Park will have rides for kids along with games and prizes for children and adults

The nationwide celebration of police, first responders and community togetherness, will kick of tonight at 6 p.m. in Rowland Park, with the South Brunswick Police Department's 28th annual National Night Out celebration.

For the second straight year, National Night Out will be combined with South Brunswick's Community Unity Day. There will be a Community Unity Day Pavilion, sponsored by the South Brunswick Municipal Alliance Against Substance Abuse, to introduce residents to several community organizations in South Brunswick. South Brunswick Patch will also have a table at the event, so stop by, say hello and grab some free Patch goodies.

“National Night Out celebrates the ongoing commitment of police departments, city governments, and grassroots organizers working together to make their communities better places to live," said South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond J. Hayducka.

South Brunswick Police have said the large venue with thousands of residents attending allows the public to share their concerns with police by speaking with officers one-on-one.

"Our success at keeping our community with one of the lowest crime rates in the county is a direct result of efforts like this," Hayducka said via release.  "Our residents are active participants in detecting and deterring crime because of the partnerships we build on."
