Motorist Flown from Turnpike Hit-and-Run Crash

A hit and run crash involving two cars forced a temporarily closure of the Turnpike in both directions in Hightstown while a helicopter landed to transport an injured motorist Friday afternoon, state police said.

The motorist was flown out by helicopter as a precaution and not seriously hurt, according to state police at the Cranbury station. One car overturned and there is no description of the vehicle that fled the crash on the northbound side of the Turnpike south of exit 8, police said.

Emergency crews responded around 2:15 p.m. and police said the roadway has since been reopened.
