More Flooding Expected in South Brunswick Thursday

Areas susceptible for flooding include Route 1 near Raymond Road and Route 27 near Stillwell Road.

An early summer onslaught of rain isn't letting up this week, as a flood watch has been issued for Middlesex County from Thursday morning into late Thursday night by the National Weather Service.

The NWS is calling for rainfall totals of one to three inches, with higher amounts possible locally. Due to the heavy rain last Friday and Monday, local rivers, creeks and streams are already running high and will not take much additional precipitation to flood over again.

On June 7, Route 1 was closed due to excessive flooding from Promenade Blvd. to Ridge Road, as water was going over the divider. Route 27 near Stillwell Road, and Deans Lane were also flooded over.

Nearly six inches of rain fell Friday into Saturday, before the deluge continued on Monday from the remnants of Tropical Storm Andrea, which caused flooding along the Jersey Shore and parts of Middlesex, Mercer and Monmouth counties.

The biggest problem spots for flooding are areas with poor drainage along small streams and creeks. South Brunswick Police are particularly concerned with the areas of Route 1 near Raymond Road and Route 27 near Stillwell Road.
