Monmouth Junction Resident Charged With Armed Robbery of Walgreens

Lodged in Somerset County Jail without bail.

A Monmouth Junction resident has been charged with armed robbery in Hillsborough after allegedly threatening a Walgreens pharmacist with a knife, according to police.

Anthony Giarratano, 23, of Monmouth Junction, was charged with first degree robbery, fourth degree unlawful possession of a weapon and fourth degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, according to Hillsborough Township Police. 

According to police, a Walgreens customer reported an unspecified problem between the store pharmacist and a customer at 6:46 p.m. May 7.  An investigation revealed that Giarratano allegedly approached the pharmacy counter and demanded a list of prescription medications from the pharmacist.  When questioned about the list, Giarratano allegedly produced a knife, police said.

The pharmacist allegedly provided Giarratano with some medications to avoid being injured, police said.

Police reported locating Giarratano outside the store.
