Monmouth Junction Mother of Three Shot and Killed in Essex County
Katrina Owens was shot and killed during a dispute at a barbecue in the Newark//East Orange area.
A 37-year-old Monmouth Junction woman was shot and killed at a barbecue in northern New Jersey yesterday.
Katrina Owens, who worked as a corrections officer, was killed during a dispute at a barbecue, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force is currently investigating the fatal shooting.

Owens was attending a barbeque with a male friend in the Newark/East Orange area when a dispute occurred, according to the prosecutor's office. During the dispute she was shot and killed.
Owens is married and the mother of three children and she became a corrections officer in 2003, according to the prosecutor's office. At the time of her death, she was working at the New Jersey State Prison in Trenton.
