Fox Hill Run Fire Kills Family Dog, Leaves Home Uninhabitable

Home suffers extensive smoke and heat damage, but no other injuries were reported.

A fire on Fox Hill Run killed a family pet and left a family homeless Saturday evening.

At 7:43 p.m. last night, a Fox Hill Run resident called 911 reporting smoke coming from a neighbor’s home. South Brunswick Police and the Monmouth Junction Fire Department quickly arrived at 3 Fox Hill Run, where MJFD Fire Chief Scott Smith observed smoke coming from the attic and second floor windows of the house.

First responders were unsure if anyone was inside the residence. Firefighters were able to force entry into the home to conduct searches, while simultaneously other first responders made an aggressive attack on the blaze.

Police said the fire had spread to both the first and second floors of the home, but firefighters quickly extinguishing the blaze, according to police.

Firefighters found the family dog on the first floor of the residence and removed him from the home, but the pet died due to smoke inhalation, police said. The residents of the home were away at the time of the fire, according to police.

The house suffered significant smoke and heat damage that left it uninhabitable, forcing the residents to stay with family overnight, police said.

Units from the Monmouth Junction Fire Company were assisted by the Kendall Park, Kingston and North Brunswick #2 Fire Companies. Both the Jamesburg and Plainsboro Fire Companies covered the township during the fire.

The Monmouth Junction and Kendall Park First Aid Squads also responded to the scene, but there were no injuries reported.

All units were clear of the scene around 10 p.m.

Police said preliminary indications are that the fire was accidental.

The investigation into the cause of the blaze continues, conducted by South Brunswick Township Deputy Fire Official Mike Soltys.
