Former Frat Members Found Not Liable in Death of Pledge from South Brunswick

Brett Griffin, of Kendall Park, died of alcohol poisoning following a hazing incident in 2008.

Two members of a University of Delaware fraternity have been found not liable for the death of an 18-year-old South Brunswick High School graduate, according to an Associated Press report on abc.com.

Brett Griffin, 18, of Kendall Park, died of alcohol poisoning during a hazing in 2008. His parents, Timothy and Julie, filed a lawsuit against the fraternity and individual members. They previously settled with other members.

Former chapter president Jason Matthew Aaron and former pledge master Matthew A. Siracusa denied any wrongdoing in Griffin’s death, and last week, a jury found in their favor, according to the report.

The jury found that Siracusa was involved in the hazing, but that the hazing didn’t directly lead to Griffin’s death, according to the report.

He was a South Brunswick High School graduate. He competed on the school's wrestling team, according to nj.com.

His friends described him as quiet, a fan of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and an acoustic guitar player.

Griffin was a pledge with the Delta Lambda chapter of Sigma Alpha Mu, and his cause of death was alcohol poisoning. His blood alcohol level was .341, according to nj.com.
