Driver Sustains Minor Burns in Garbage Truck Fire

No serious injuries were suffered Tuesday morning during a garbage truck fire on Route 535 and Dunhams Corner Road.

The blaze was reported at 9:17 a.m. after the driver dumped the contents of the enclosed garbage truck in the parking lot of Krygier’s Nursery, according to Monmouth Junction Fire Chief Scott Smith.

Firefighters from Monmouth Junction and the Brookview Fire Company from East Brunswick extinguished the blaze, which involved a large quantity of trash and cardboard, Smith said.

The driver of the truck sustained minor burns to his hands and was treated at the scene by South Brunswick EMS. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the South Brunswick Fire Safety Bureau.

All units cleared the scene by about 11 a.m.
