UPDATE: Deans Pond Fire Ruled Accidental; Two Families Displaced

The cause of a two-alarm fire in the Deans Pond Crossing development Tuesday night has been ruled as accidental. 

South Brunswick Police spokesman Sgt. Jim Ryan said the investigation determined a candle that wasn't completely extinguished caused the blaze at 30 Revere Road.

The occupants of the house had left for a religious service and returned home to find the first floor of their residence ablaze, according to police. A family of four, including two children ages 14- and 5-years-old, was displaced as a result of the fire that caused the structure's roof to collapse.

In addition, the blaze also left an adjacent Revere Road house uninhabitable as well. No information was available as to how many people were displaced from that home.

Neighbors in the development held a meeting Wednesday morning and will be setting up a web site to collect donations for the families displaced by the fire.

One home was destroyed and two homes were damaged during a two-alarm fire in the Deans Pond Crossing development Tuesday evening.

At 9:45 p.m. South Brunswick Police were alerted to a fire at 30 Revere Road after the residents returned home and found the first floor ablaze. The Monmouth Junction Fire Department arrived at the scene and witnessed the fire shooting out of three windows on the second floor, with the entire first floor engulfed.

Police then evacuated neighbors of the residence.

The fire advanced to two alarms with the Monmouth Junction, Kendall Park, Kingston, North Brunswick and Jamesburg fire departments responding to the scene. 

A total of 60 firefighters got control of the blaze after about 25 minutes, but the roof of 30 Revere Road collapsed as a result of the fire. First responders stayed on scene until about 2 a.m. No injuries were suffered. 

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the South Brunswick Fire Marshal’s Office. Two families were displaced by the blaze and are staying with friends, according to police.
