Authorities Bust Cocaine Distribution Ring Along Route 27

“Operation Corridor Crackdown” targeted cocaine distribution on the Route 27 corridor between Franklin Township and New Brunswick.

Over 30 defendants, including several from South Brunswick, were charged on Friday with various drug offenses after authorities broke a cocaine distribution ring along the Route 27 corridor, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office.

“Operation Corridor Crackdown” targeted cocaine distribution activity in the vicinity of the Route 27 corridor between Franklin Township and New Brunswick. Friday morning's bust resulted in the seizure of over 112 grams of cocaine and approximately $8,400.

Calvin Gorrell, 41, of North Brunswick; Atif Dukes, 38, of New Brunswick; Dion Hooper, 41, of North Brunswick; and Hasain Gorrell, 34, of Piscataway, are accused of collectively selling cocaine to individuals in Somerset and Middlesex counties.

According to authorities, Calvin Gorrell sold cocaine to an undercover narcotics detective in Bridgewater Township on multiple occasions in the late fall of 2011.  Detectives then determined that Hooper and Dukes were allegedly supplying Calvin Gorrell with the drugs.  Detectives also learned that Calvin Gorrell’s cousin, Hasain Gorrell, was allegedly assisting Calvin and Dukes in the distribution of cocaine.

On Feb. 6, authorities executed search warrants on the residences and vehicles belonging to Calvin Gorrell, Dukes, and Hooper.  The search of Dukes’ residence yielded approximately one and a half ounces of cocaine, drug packaging materials, and $800, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office.

Detectives allegedly seized approximately ten grams of cocaine, drug packaging materials, four cell phones, an undisclosed quantity of marijuana, and $598 during a search of Calvin Gorrell’s residence, according to authorities.  During a search of Hooper's residence, detectives seized approximately $7,200 from the suspect, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office.

Friday morning, detectives executed an arrest warrant on Hasain Gorrell at his residence, and allegedly seized over two ounces of cocaine, and a quantity of marijuana that he had in his possession, according to authorities.  The total value of the cocaine seized in the investigation had an estimated street value of $11,500, according to the prosecutor's office.

Calvin Gorrell was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance with the intent to distribute, conspiracy to distribute a controlled dangerous substance, five counts of distribution of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, which are both disorderly persons offenses.

Dukes was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, conspiracy to distribute a controlled dangerous substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Hasain Gorrell was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, conspiracy to distribute a controlled dangerous substance, conspiracy to possess a controlled dangerous substance, attempt to possess a controlled dangerous substance, and possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana.

Hooper was charged with conspiracy to distribute a controlled dangerous substance.
