UPDATE: Accident Stops Turnpike Traffic

A tractor-trailer accident and fire has closed northbound lanes on the NJ Turnpike between exits 8A and 9. Traffic is being diverted to Route 18 and Dunhams Corner Road.

A truck fire involving three tractor-trailers closed the outer truck lane on the turnpike this morning between exit 8a and 9, but it has since been reopened leaving delays in the area, state police said.

According to reports, a tandem trailer jackknifed and wrapped itself around the cab of a tanker truck. The main body of a fire that resulted has been extinguished.

One of the tractor-trailers was an oil tanker, which caused a hazmat issue, and one was a UPS truck, state police said. Police estimate a 15 to 20 mile delay in the area.
