Vera A. Schwartz, 80, Beloved Special Education Teacher and Volunteer

Vera Schwartz passed away on Jan. 22.

Vera A. Schwartz, 80, of Kendall Park died on January 22, 2012 at Princeton Hospital. She was born on May 31, 1931 in Hamburg, Germany and moved as a child to Schenectady, NY.

She has resided in Kendall Park, NJ since 1967.

Mrs. Schwartz attended Michigan University and went to graduate school at Teacher's College, Columbia University. She received her Ed.D. degree at Rutger's University.

Mrs. Schwartz taught dance at the University of Vermont, Penn State, and Kean College. She later devoted herself to working with children with special needs. Mrs. Schwartz took a position as the executive director of Very Special Arts New Jersey and became certified special education teacher.

In keeping with her passion, upon retirement she worked for South Brunswick Parks and Recreation where she helped develop a program to improve the artistic and movement skills of children with special needs.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Seymour Schwartz, her son Kenneth (Joan) Schwartz, her daughter Ann Bucknam, and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the at 124 New Road, Monmouth Junction on Saturday January 28, 2012 at 2:30 p.m.
