VIDEO: National Night Out in South Brunswick

A crowd of over 6,000 people welcomed the return of National Night Out to South Brunswick Tuesday evening at Rowland Park.

The recorded 6,200 people in attendance was the largest turnout in the 26-year history of the event in South Brunswick, according to police.

"It is the dedication and hard work of all the officers and volunteers that make the night a success," said Chief Raymond Hayducka.

The celebration offered free rides for kids, games and prizes, free hot dogs, soda, chips, ice cream, and popcorn. Residents mingled with township first responders while viewing displays from the township police and fire departments, first aid squads, and other groups at the event.

South Brunswick's Charlene J. Austin Community Unity Day was also part of National Night Out, giving dozens of township organizations the opportunity to share information on their services and programs, while displaying the healthy activities they provide to help prevent alcohol, tobacco and drug use.
