SBPAL Kicks off Season with Food Drive

Help families in need by donating a food item to the South Brunswick Food Pantry at this weekend's football opener at Rowland Park.

The South Brunswick PAL football season will kickoff this weekend with a chance for residents to help out the township's less fortunate.

Fans attending the games at Rowland Park are asked to local families in need by bringing nonperishable food items for donation. Every donation, no matter how big or small, is desperately needed by the South Brunswick Food Pantry.

The pantry is currently experiencing a record number of people in need of help. July brought the  history.

"We had 72 families come in for help in July, which just blew me away," said "That was our largest number ever. We had 10 new families just last month. People can't make ends meet, they still can't find work and their unemployment is stopping."

The lineup for this Saturday's games at  are:

  • 3 p.m. Tiny Mites vs. Iselin
  • 4 p.m. Mitey Mites vs. Carteret
  • 5:30 p.m. Junior Pee Wees vs. Carteret
  • 7 p.m. Pee Wees vs. Carteret

The Food Pantry is in need of the following items:

  • Snack Foods (graham crackers, low-fat and low-sugar snacks, granola bars, cookies, crackers, pretzels, nuts, raisins and dried fruit
  • Canned coffee
  • Boxed rice
  • Boxed potatoes
  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Oatmeal
  • Peanut butter and jelly
  • Hearty soups 
  • Canned vegetables (corn, mixed, and greens)  

Please donate whatever you can and help cheer on the Vikings to another great year of football.
