National Night Out Tonight at Rowland Park

National Night Out and Charlene J. Austin Community Unity Day returns to South Brunswick starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

South Brunswick residents will have a chance to meet the township's first responders and community organizations during the annual celebration tonight.

Last year about 3,600 people attended the event at Rowland Park, which helped gain township police nationwide recognition for their efforts. South Brunswick's event ranked first in New Jersey and  in 2010. Last year, and sixth nationally by the National Association of Town Watch for their community outreach efforts.

This year's celebration will offer free rides for the kids, in addition to games and prizes for children and adults. There also will be free hot dogs, soda, chips, ice cream, and popcorn available. Radio station WMGQ will be broadcasting live from this event. 

Displays from the township police and fire departments, first aid squads, and other groups will also be at the event.

In addition, South Brunswick's Charlene J. Austin Community Unity Day will be is part of National Night Out,  which gives dozens of township organizations the opportunity to share information on their services and programs, while displaying the healthy activities they provide to help prevent alcohol, tobacco and drug use.

The combined National Night Out celebration and the South Brunswick Municipal Alliance Against Substance Abuse's annual Charlene J. Austin Community Unity Day will be held tonight (Aug. 7) at Rowland Park, located on Broadway Road near Rowland Road. The festivities will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
