Letter: Heavier Traffic Coming to Town Thanks to North Brunswick

Former South Brunswick Councilman questions whether North Brunswick is a good neighbor.

Wake up citizens of South Brunswick, more traffic is coming into our town from the north, south, east, and west.  That’s right the traffic on US 1, Route 27 and Route 130 along with the side roads that connect them will be experiencing heavier traffic.

Construction is beginning on the new transit village in North Brunswick which fronts on US 1. The transit village will include a train station (which has already been approved), 300,000 square feet of freestanding large retail establishments, 450,000 square feet of mixed use retail and commercial space, 195,000 square feet of office space, a 250,000 square foot hotel and1,875 residential units for a grand total of 1.245 million square feet of development.  That’s a lot of development and that means a lot of traffic.

Now everyone who travels on US 1, Route 27 or Route 130 knows that traffic is already horrendous on those roads at rush hour because our roads cannot handle the current traffic.  Now with this transit village, which includes 1,875 residential units and a huge amount of commercial and retail space, these roads will become even more congested.

What a deal we have here.  North Brunswick gets the rateables and South Brunswick gets the traffic.  I ask you, is North Brunswick a good neighbor?
