South Brunswick Arts Commission Gallery Talk with Carole Grand

Carole Grand's "Coney Island Remembered" is one of the works on display in the South Brunswick Arts Commission's current exhibit, LEGENDARY LOCATIONS.  The artist's talk and demonstration of mixed media techniques is free and open to the public.

She says, "I plan to explain what mixed media is, show examples of my work, and talk about what influences me and where I get my inspiration.  I will demonstrate how I achieve a textured background using tissue paper and other materials.  I intend to bring in a variety of materials and point out how they are used in my work.  In addition, I will demonstrate several techniques, such as direct transfer of photos, photos using contact paper, stamping, use of stencils, etc.

"Most of all I enjoy using mixed media because there are no rules, and it gives me a great feeling to of freedom to experiment and 'play'."

As a mixed media artist, Grand uses a variety of materials and  techniques to create her work. Inspiration comes from her own experiences, the world around herand her imagination; often a photograph or image will become a catalyst for a painting.  Her work evolves and changes as layers are hidden and revealed.
