SB Parent Academy: Letting Go Workshop at SBHS

The South Brunswick Parent Academy begins 2014 with a workshop that looks toward next fall when many parents will be faced with their child’s transition to adulthood. The SBPA workshop, “Get Ready, Get Set … Now How Do I Let Go?” will be presented on Wednesday, January 29th, 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. in the South Brunswick High School Library. The workshop will address the emotional roller coaster many parents and children experience during the last year of high school (as well as during other times of transition) and discuss strategies for preparing yourself, as well as your children, for this giant step into adulthood.

Whether your high school student is your first child leaving home for college - now in or in the future - or you’ve done it all before, plan to attend this enlightening and informative workshop, presented by Dr. Gary McCartney, Joanne Kerekes, George Scott, Richard Chromey and Christine Mariano. As an added bonus, ten lucky attendees will receive a copy of the workshop’s recommended reading: Letting Go: A Parent’s Guide to Understanding the College Years by Karen Levin Coburn, Madge Lawrence Treeger.

Please note: as mentioned above, the January 29th workshop will take place at South Brunswick High School in the Library, 750 Ridge Road, Monmouth Junction and will run from 7:00-8:30 pm. In addition, unlike most SBPA workshops, childcare will NOT be provided.

Interested parties can register online by visiting the District's Web site, www.sbschools.org and clicking the Parent Academy link under Quick links or by emailing sbpa@sbparents.org. If you are emailing your registration, be sure to include your name, telephone number, email address and your child’s grade.

The South Brunswick Municipal Alliance, Every Parent Influences Children (EPIC) and the South Brunswick School District are partnering once again to offer a series of workshops under the umbrella of the South Brunswick Parent Academy (SBPA). The Academy is founded on the concept of “Solving the Puzzle of Parenting … One Piece at a Time.” In its eighth year, SBPA continues to offer parenting workshops, as well as District workshops on curriculum, instruction and safe and caring schools.

This school year SBPA offers ten workshops, focusing on timely and relevant issues facing families today, as well as state and District education initiatives.EPIC is a non-profit organization whose programming is funded in South Brunswick by the South Brunswick Board of Education and a grant from the South Brunswick Municipal Alliance, as part of the NJ Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse.
