Brown Bag Series Lecture: Vanitas: The Political Still Life / Presented by Geandy Pavón

Geandy
Pavón was born in Las Tunas, Cuba and currently works as an artist in New
Jersey. He received his B.F.A. from Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas
(National School of Fine Arts), in Havana, Cuba. Pavón addresses politics
through various mediums of art. In May 2011, Pavón notably projected Chinese
artist Ai Weiwei’s portrait onto the street side of the New York City Chinese
Consulate, a guerrilla protest for the detained artist. This was part of a
series of political installments entitled “Project Nemesis.”

This guest lecture will be presented in conjunction
with the opening of the College Art Gallery’s exhibition Video Cubano, which will be on display from October 23rd
through December 15th, 2013.
