Walking Tour of D&R Canal set for Jan. 7

Canal Watch board member Bob Barth will conduct the walk and provide commentary.

The Delaware & Raritan Canal Watch will hold another in its series of free walking tours of the D&R Canal on Saturday, Jan. 7. 

The walk will be between Alexander Road in Princeton Township and Carnegie Road in Lawrence, with the option of a shorter walk. 

The 5.5-mile walk will include Turning Basin Park, Port Mercer and its historic bridge tender’s house, a dramatic footbridge over Route 1, Bakers Basin and the bridge tender’s house at Carnegie Road.

Meet 10 a.m. at Princeton Turning Basin Park, located between the bridges over Stony Brook and the canal on Alexander Road in Princeton Township. A shorter walk will also be offered. Carpools will be arranged to allow transportation back to Basin Park.
