Questions Linger After Arrest in Rossi Murder Case

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Special Agent in Charge Michael Ward of the FBI have announced an arrest has been made in connection with the homicide of Bloomfield business owner Joseph Rossi Sr. But the arrest of Jose Rivera, 48, of Plainfield, appears at odds with several New York newspaper articles reporting Rossi's murder was carried out by a mob informant, Nicholas "Nicky Skins" Stefanelli, 69, of Belleville, as an act of retaliation.

Jury Says Lottery Jackpot Winner Must Pay Coworkers Millions

A jury unanimously decided Wednesday that Americo Lopes had cheated his coworkers out of their share of a $38.5 million Mega Millions jackpot lottery pool. The panel rejected the 52-year-old's claims that he had won the jackpot on a personal ticket and not with the ticket that he had bought as part of the lottery pool. [CBS News]

A former Montville first-grade teacher faces additional sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child charges after a second victim came forward, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said. One parent whose daughter was a student of the teacher said she  holding hands with students, but was stunned by the charges.

A former middle school teacher in California was charged Tuesday on suspicion of child pornography after he allegedly exchanged sexually explicit photographs online with a 13-year-old South Brunswick girl. Eugene Ballantyne, 29, of Running Springs, Calif., was arrested without incident Tuesday and charged with receipt and distribution of child pornography.

During a public Cranford Township Committee meeting Tuesday night, Police Chief Eric Mason read a statement voicing his disappointment over the fact that someone released a tape of an eight-year-old phone call with his son, in which Mason jokes that his day was going well because he "didn't have to kill any white people." Mason, who returned from a week-long vacation this week, was out of the country when the controversy erupted, just hours after he announced his plans to retire as police chief and take on a full-time role as township administrator.

The second floor of the Hoboken police department resembled a movie set on Friday morning, with actors Danny Aiello and Alex Corrado chatting and reminiscing about movies, actors and the Hoboken of the past. Aiello and Corrado were in town to present the Lustgarten Foundation with a $5,000 check.

Rep. Frank J. Pallone Jr. (D-NJ) visited the Greenbriar Clubhouse in Marlboro Thursday to discuss the impact of the Affordable Care Act on seniors. Pallone was a principal author of the health care bill, which was signed into law in 2010.

A Middlesex County jury found Dharun Ravi guilty Friday in the Rutgers webcam spying case that may have led to the suicide of Ridgewood native Tyler Clementi in fall of 2010. Ravi, 20, was convicted on the most serious charges of bias intimidation and invasion of privacy and faces a possible ten year prison sentence.
