Today is National HIV Testing Day

Free, local HIV Testing Available, plus free year-round testing is available throughout the area.

Today is National HIV Testing Day. Residents are encouraged to get tested and attend events to learn more about HIV/AIDS.

Today's events include free testing and education from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Trinity Cathedral, 801 West State Street, Trenton, sponsored by New Jersey Human Development Corporation, Henry J. Austin Health Center and the New Jersey Women and AIDS Network.

“Since the discovery of HIV 30 years ago, great strides have been made in the treatment of HIV/AIDS, said New Jersey’s Acting Health and Senior Services Commissioner Dr. Tina Tan. “However, every day, people are still getting infected. One of the best ways to take control of your health is getting an HIV test to learn your status.”

Nationally, New Jersey has one of the highest percentages of women with the disease.  Injection drug use and sexual contact remain the major sources of exposure to HIV, but the percentage of cases linked to sexual contact is rising while the proportion of cases traced to injection drug use is declining.
