The  girls basketball team earned its way to the GMC Final for the first time in over 30 years in dramatic fashion. Ashley DeGroff hit a buzzer beater as time expired to give South Brunswick a 42-41 win over Piscataway at SBHS. , when SBHS won the last of two straight titles. The Vikings then beat North Brunswick to capture the GMC title.

South Brunswick High School graduate Chris Ward had his life tragically cut short at the age of 24, but his memory lives on. through scholarships and promoting youth recreation involvement.  During the first year of the Chris Ward Memorial Foundation, the organization gave back to the community through volunteer work, such as the Zilinski Memorial Run and various other organizations.
