South Brunswick Job Growth Expected to be Above National Average Over Next Decade

However, cost of living projected to remain well above rest of the U.S.

Recently released data on the best places to live in the country projects job growth in South Brunswick Township to be above the national average over the next decade.

However, it comes as no shock that the cost of living in South Brunswick is expected to be well above the U.S. average as well. The data is according to Sperling’s Best Places, which compiles information for places to live across the country. It then compares the data to information from throughout the United States.

The unemployment rate in South Brunswick came in at 6.7 percent, below the national average of 8.6 percent. According to Sperling's, job growth from 2011 to 2012 in South Brunswick is 0.66 percent, while the national average is 0.35 percent.

Over 170 new businesses moved to South Brunswick in 2012. The township went from about 10 million square feet of unoccupied warehouse space down to less than 2 million square feet of unoccupied space.

Job growth is expected to bloom faster than the national average in South Brunswick over the next decade, at a projected 34.62 percent rate, higher than the projected national average of 32.10 percent.

The job projections are based on factors like migration patterns and economic growth.

The average yearly income per capita in South Brunswick is $37,889, well above the national average of $26,154. The average median income per household in the township is $94,361, while the average nationwide is $50,935.

Unsurprisingly, the area's high cost of living is considerably greater than the national average.

Sperling's calculates the the total of all the cost of living categories subjectively, with housing totaling 30 percent, food and groceries 15 percent, transportation 10 percent, utilities 6 percent, health care 7 percent, and expenses such as clothing, services, and entertainment at 32 percent. 

The cost of living index is then based on a U.S. average of 100, with South Brunswick coming in with a cost of living rating of 151 overall. The average cost of heating or cooling a typical residence in South Brunswick, including electricity and natural gas, had a rating of 133, versus the national average of 100.

State and local taxes were not included in the cost of living index, however South Brunswick's average municipal bill last year came in at $1,589.53, well below the state average of $2,324.66, while  which was above the state average of $4,120.16.
