OK, So What SHOULD Be New Jersey's Nickname?

Everyone knows New Jersey's the Garden State. What's surprising is just how many people don't know why (and we'll have more on that for you another time).

But we were wondering: What should be New Jersey's nickname? Bob Ingle and Sandy McClure call it The Soprano State. Cynics call it Dirty Jerzy. New Yorkers call it names we won't publish.

We came up with the following:

• The Makes-Teachers-Union-Negotiations-a-Spectator-Sport State

• The We-Swear-It-Doesn't-All-Smell-Like-That-One-Stretch-of-the-Turnpike State
• The Jughandle State
• The What's-Self-Serve-Gas State
• The Diner Capital of the World
• The Birthplace of Patch
