UPDATE: Most NJ Transit Rail Service Restored Tuesday

NJ TRANSIT is working to restore most rail service tomorrow, August 30, in the wake of residual impacts from Hurricane Irene.  Bus and light rail service will operate on a regular weekday schedule. 

Crews continue to work around the clock to make necessary repairs and reconstruct areas of the railroad damaged by the storm. 

As NJ TRANSIT works toward restoring the system to normal operation, customers are advised of possible delays and cancellations due to remaining storm damage. 

NJ TRANSIT is advising customers of the following:

Rail Service: 

• Northeast Corridor:  Trains are expected to operate between New Brunswick Station and New York only, due to ongoing flooding at Trenton Transit Center.  Service will remain suspended between Trenton and New Brunswick until further notice. 

Northeast Corridor trains will operate every 20 minutes from New Brunswick to New York.

Northeast Corridor trains will operate hourly out of New York Penn Station to New Brunswick.

• North Jersey Coast Line:  Trains are expected to operate, subject to delays in both directions due to storm damage.  In addition, 3500-series trains to/from South Amboy may be cancelled.
• Raritan Valley Line:  Trains are expected to operate, subject to delays in both directions due to storm damage. 
• Morris & Essex Lines:  Trains are expected to operate on a regular weekday schedule tomorrow.    
• Main/Bergen County Line:  Trains are expected to operate on a regular weekday schedule tomorrow.  Customers who normally transfer at Secaucus for service to New York are advised to stay on the train to Hoboken to connect with PATH at no additional charge.    
• Port Jervis Line:  Rail service will remain suspended due to flooding and storm damage between Suffern and Harriman.
• Montclair-Boonton Line:  Trains are expected to operate on a regular weekday schedule tomorrow between Hoboken/New York and Little Falls Station.  Service will be suspended between Little Falls and Mountain Lakes due to storm damage.
• Pascack Valley Lines:  Trains are expected to operate on a regular weekday schedule tomorrow.  Customers who normally transfer at Secaucus for service to New York are advised to stay on the train to Hoboken to connect with PATH at no additional charge.        
• Atlantic City Rail Line:  Trains will operate on a regular weekday schedule tomorrow.

Bus Service:

• Bus service will operate on a regular weekday schedule tomorrow.
• Some routes may be subject to delays, detours or cancellations due to local flooding.
• Bus service to/from Willowbrook Mall and Mothers Park/Ride both in Wayne may be suspended due to flooding.
• Bus routes 194 and 196 remain suspended due to flooding along the Route 23 corridor.

Light Rail Service:

• Hudson-Bergen Light Rail and Newark Light Rail will operate on a regular weekday schedule.
• River Line will operate on a weekend schedule tomorrow until Wednesday. 

Access Link:

• Access Link Paratransit Service will operate trips as scheduled tomorrow. 

Systemwide Cross-Honoring in Effect:

To give customers additional travel options, NJ TRANSIT will offer systemwide cross-honoring, enabling customers to use their ticket or pass on an alternate travel mode – rail, bus or light rail, PATH and private carrier buses.

NJ Transit rail service will remain suspended until further notice, except for the Atlantic City Rail Line, as a result of residual impacts of Hurricane Irene.

The changes also mean no rail service for the New York Giants/New York Jets game scheduled for Monday evening.

NJ Transit will operate bus and light rail service on a modified schedule on Monday, Aug. 29. 

While repairs are deployed to restore service, NJ Transit is advising customers of the following:

Rail Service:

• Crews continue to assess the rail infrastructure and are nearly complete.
• There are numerous downed trees across the rail system.
• Several rail stations are flooded.
• Rail service will be suspended until further notice, except for the Atlantic City Rail Line, which will operate.
• Rail customers (except ACRL) are advised to seek alternate transportation because of significant storm damage.
• There will be NO service to the Meadowlands Sports Complex tomorrow night for the Giants/Jets Game due to expected limited equipment and crewmembers.  Coach USA will supplement its bus service from Port Authority Bus Terminal.

Bus Service:

• Bus service is expected to operate a modified weekday schedule on Monday, with fewer trips operating during peak periods on some routes.
• Some routes may be subject to delays, detours or cancellations due to local flooding.
• Bus service to/from Willowbrook Mall and Mothers Park/Ride may be suspended due to flooding.

 Light Rail Service:

• Hudson-Bergen Light Rail and River Line will operate on a weekend schedule. River Line customers may be subject to delays between the Walter Rand Transportation Center and the Entertainment Center due to flooding.
• Newark Light Rail will operate on a Saturday schedule.

 Access Link:

• Access Link Paratransit Service will begin operating at 1 p.m. on Monday.

System-wide Cross-Honoring in Effect:

To give customers additional travel options, NJ Transit will offer system wide cross-honoring, enabling customers to use their ticket or pass on an alternate travel mode – rail, bus or light rail.  For example, customers who normally take the train from Rutherford to New York Penn Station may use their rail pass on the bus from Rutherford to the Port Authority Bus Terminal.  Similarly, customers who normally take the bus between Atlantic City and Lindenwold may use the Atlantic City Rail Line.  In addition, PATH trains and private carrier buses will cross honor NJ TRANSIT tickets and passes.
