Hugs for Brady Needs Volunteers for 5k on April 27

Adult volunteers needed to assist with parking, water stations, monitoring bounce huts and more.

As South Brunswick's Hugs for Brady Foundation has grown exponentially in size and scope since their inception, so too have the size of their events.

The third annual Hugs for Brady 5k Twilight Run/Walk already has 400 people signed up to participate.

Hugs for Brady was started by Mike and Sherrie Wells, of Kendall Park, in honor of their son from pediatric leukemia. The Wells started the Hugs for Brady Foundation with the goal of helping the Cancer Institute of New Jersey and the Bristol-Myers Squibb Children's Hospital (BMSCH) fight pediatric cancer. The non-profit organization supports all causes concerning pediatric cancer, from buying custom built wagons, computers, televisions and video games for patients, to helping finance a pediatric/hematology fellowship program.

With the size of the 5k event increasing, so too is the need for volunteers.

"We're just growing a lot, which is great, but we need adults capable of helping with parking, water stations, security, and bounce huts," Sherrie Wells said. "We have a lot of kid volunteers, but we really need some more adults to help out."
