Flood Watch Extended Through Thursday

Middlesex County is under a flood watch as more rain may cause already stressed local waterways and streams to overflow again

The National Weather Service has extended the flood watch for New Jersey through Thursday afternoon. South Brunswick officials said Fresh Ponds Road was already experiencing flooding issues as of last night, with more rainfall expected to exacerbate already stressed local waterways and streams.

The forecast is calling for heavy showers today with isolated thunderstorms concentrated from eastern Maryland and Pennsylvania into New Jersey. The NWS said if the bands move over the same places, flash flood warnings may become necessary. Bands of heavier rain may also develop in the area tonight into Thursday morning.

Due to heavy saturation of the ground from the continued rainfall over the last few weeks, smaller streams may experience sharp rises and flooding in areas with poor drainage and on roads may occur.
