First Significant Snowfall of the Year Expected on Saturday

Up to four inches of snow possible, expected to start early Saturday morning.

After the unexpected snow storm in October, winter has been relatively mild thus far. But that's expected to change tomorrow as winter weather is expected to hit South Brunswick on Saturday with the first real snow accumulation of 2012.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a winter weather advisory for Middlesex County, as residents can expect a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain, to begin at 1 a.m. Saturday morning.

The winter weather is predicted to last about 12 hours, coming to an end early Saturday afternoon.

Snowfall amounts are predicted to be in the range of 2 to 4 inches, according to NWS estimates. There's also expected to be a blanket of ice on roads and sidewalks.

The NWS predicts the snow to turn into sleet and freezing rain as temperatures rise on Saturday, before turning into rain.

Temperatures are expected to warm up on Monday with a rise to the low 50s, with the forecast also calling for rain.
