Downed Trees Close Route 27 Near Route 518 Intersection

High winds lead to power outages and fallen trees.

High winds have caused numerous problems this afternoon, with power outages and road closures throughout South Brunswick.

Route 27 has been closed entirely at Route 518 because of downed trees. Friendship Road has one lane closed at New Road also due to a fallen tree. 

The area of Melrich Road off of Route 130 is currently without power. No estimates were available as to when the roads would be reopened and when power would be restored.

A tornado watch is in effect for the entire state until 7 p.m. tonight.

The NWS predicts thunderstorms after 2 p.m., which could bring "gusty winds and heavy rain."

Wind gusts could also get up to 43 mph over the course of the day. 

The rain is expected to last through Tuesday night, with the strong winds winding down by Wednesday, while the showers are likely to continue. The temperature will also start to lower on Wednesday with a high around 71 predicted for the day.
